In an age that's long forgotten,
The stars let out a sigh,
They shone out of the heavens,
And fell out of the sky,
The people in their broken homes,
Let out a broken cry,
It flew upon the metal breeze and cracked a metal lie.
The mountains turned to fire,
The people turned to dust,
Everything that used to be,
Turned into hollow rust.

It's still a work in progress, I'm having a lot of difficulty drawing the city. I'll have to re-draw it I think, but still - I think the sky and the god himself have improved a bit (thanks to suggestions and things - thank you ). So yes, there is probably someone out there who might be wondering what this image is about, so for those who are interested I'll describe a little the things behind it.
Basically, this figure represents the god of the industrial world. He, in his own way is the spark of the tool, the raising of skyscrapers and the lament of humanity lost. While he is amazing and beautiful in his own way, he has destroyed nature around him and this is the reason for his kneeling. Perhaps in a small while, you would see comets smashing into the Earth as the slate is wiped clean for the cycle to begin anew.
I will say that you've come a -looooong- way with the practice you've done from when I first saw your artwork. THIS... from YOU- one wonders, -without being a manip of another work-?! Yes... indeed! Though amazing... if picturing those early works of yours in the mind's eye. The clouds especially, I would rave about. The buildings are a little undone, but being in progress that's understandable. I'm reminded of something... from sooooomewhere... concerning the figure. The Cell? ...I don't know... only that it seems vaguely familiar. *sighs* I guess I'm going to need to break down and actually... chat with you. X) I don't know why, but I'm getting a sudden wave of Fishy nostalgia, kinda missin' the Fishy-ness. Sincere congrats... and I don't know if you've moved yet, but if so ...is it Stockholm? Oh my memory... *sigh* but, if you've moved, it certainly is treating you well. Yorkshire! Aha... so I can remember. XD
Well, its looking pretty good so far, though I suggest trying to get more contrast between the main figure and the clouds as they are almost merging tonally wise. Either lightening the clouds, adding a little blue to show distance might be enough.

Paint a picture with words and everyone sees something different.
For some reason, when I look at this, I see God... constructing the world, piece by piece, and because most of the patterns are found on his body, it could be said, or at least speculated, that it is being made in his own image.
Yes, I know that was rather "biblical," but it's what I see... which is strange, because I'm not very "biblical."
I disagree with the previous comment, whereas that you should not change the tone between the figure and the background; it gives it that "singularity" effect, whereas everything is connected, all, and one.
I have to say, I am quite blown away by this piece... as I am always blown away by your work, and I can only say to continue; if not for yourself, then the world... please.

The meaning that you've given to this piece is pretty much how I feel about it. I was sitting by my window looking at a sunset - you know, one of those sunsets that looks like someone's just put wet paint across the sky and my mind ran away somewhat.
I'm not a "biblical" person eaither, or a religious person in general but I do find a sense of beauty from the ideas that different religions have.
This is the calm before the storm because unfortunately, as you said, this "god" is creating the world in his own image but he is made out of metal. Forged in the fire of suns. While this may not seem bad, it is because the people who he is helping to create have nothing in the way of trees or a connection with their enviroment.
As they build and destroy the envrioment around them eventually the mountains crack and restore things to the way they were.
So think of this as one moment, a breath, before it ends, only to be reborn once again into something different.
And yes - this is a little of how I feel about the world. I can't shake the feeling that it's all gone wrong. Perhaps when I finish this piece I will draw the next part of the story.
Thank you! This may seem strange (it does to me) but I had not really stopped to consider the impact a tiny smudge of blue might have in small parts of the sky. I think I'll play around with this and see what happens. If it fits, that'll be nice but if not then that's ok with me too. We'll see.
Thank you very much for your imput - it has been very much appriciated.
I have indeed come a long way! I guess not submitting things for ages has in a way paid off. It's taken me a while because I've had to completely get rid of almost everything I know and start again ('s why everything has been taking so long - that and artistic blocks / lazyness).
Aye - I wanted to get away from photomanipulations because well.. I find that I can only go so far with them. Perhaps the thing it might remind you of is a work of art called "The Thinker". The being in this painting is in a similar position to the figure in that work.
Or, perhaps, Atlas- the depiction of the one who holds the world aloft. And in some different sense, there seems to be a similar weight on the shoulders of the one in this painting- as if being crushed and refusing to be crushed by the sky- trapped under the clouds, locked in a tiny room- that becomes an entire world. I -still- want to rave about how much I adore those clouds!
...And you were worried that your artistic side had come to an end. The pale horse went lame and there's not a replacement to be had at the moment- something tells me it will take a while for you to be caught up with. X) We all understand laziness, though. You may be so far behind with everything that if you had to finish everything before you could die you'd live past your due, but -no one- escapes laziness. Though a few people do manage to outrun it for the most part.
XD Oxfordshire. Ox-Ford-Shire... must remember the simple three-part-word. X) It's doing you good, lass.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
